So…I’m finally getting around to doing something I said I would after my last post…which was so long ago, but better late than never. Last time we talked about Sara Bareilles’ twist on Beyonce’s Single Ladies and Sharon posted a comment that she enjoyed Sara’s rendition, but said she wasn’t familiar with her. Well, here is a little something to introduce you to Sara Bareilles who is definitely a singer/songwriter worth knowing. She exploded on the scene back in 2007 with her big hit, Love Song. I’m sure you’ve heard it, even if you think you haven’t. I feel like it was on a bunch of tv shows and commercials and for a while you would hear it everywhere. Come on…you know the girl sitting on the piano singing “I’m not gonna write you a love song…cuz you asked for it…” Remember? Anyway, I really like her. She’s got some good songs, but you’ve got to hear my favorite.

Cover Me Bad (…or Good?)
Billboard.com does these things they call mash ups….which I’m not sure why because I always thought a mash up was when you mix two different songs into one, but anyway, they have artists perform cover songs outside of their normal genre. Every now and then it turns out a pretty cool performance because it is interesting to see how the artist interprets the song and puts a different spin on it. Click on the link to listen to what Sara Bareilles did with Beyonce’s “Single Ladies”. I really like Sara’s music. She’s got quite a few songs that I love. I’m not saying I’m in love with what she did with Beyonce’s song, but I do think it was pretty clever because I couldn’t figure out how she was going to switch it up.
Click on this link to listen to Janelle Monae sing the old classic “Smile”. She didn’t really do anything different with the song, but I thought it was cool to see her stand still and sing. Check out her guitar player with the wig and the manicure. What’s that about?
One more, just for kicks. This is Charice singing Shania Twain’s “Your Still the One”. Again, not very different from the original, but she sounds good so I included it. Let me know what you think.
