Whatever Will Be...Willow Be
Have you guys heard Willow Smith’s new song “Whip My Hair”? When I heard she had a new song, I wasn’t expecting much because I’d heard a clip of her singing before and wasn’t impressed. However, I should’ve known the Smith family wouldn’t have released the product if it didn’t meet a certain standard. Couple that pedigree with a hot beat provided by Roc-A-Fella records and you’ve got a recipe for success. They worked their magic in the studio and the song sounds pretty good. I think it’s a catchy tune. I had to remind myself that Willow is only 9 years old so she has plenty of time for her voice to mature and to really develop her craft. She definitely has the potential to be a successful artist. I was involved in a debate about whether or not a young black girl can sell as many records and become as popular as the young white boy that has currently created the epidemic known as Beiber Fever that is currently sweeping the nation. I think it would be possible if she was singing Pop music that would appeal to a wider audience, but this song seems to fall more into the R&B/Hip Hop genre. Who knows what her style is or what else she would create, but I’d think it would have to be more crossover in order to reach that wide of an audience. I’m sure that’s not the intent anyway, just let me know if you like it or not. If you haven’t heard it yet, click this link to listen to it.

I love this song! I think that its so cute and that she's going to be set for LIFE (never mind the fact that she already is)! lol! Anyway, I do think that she can have just as much success as The Bieber.
ReplyDeleteI gotta say I love that song too. So catchy and the beat is blazin!!! There has been some talk about Willow being too young but I'm not buying that. She has a very talented family and I sure she is very talented herself. There is no need to wait til she is older to start in the entertainment business. She's gonna be an entertainer! Might as well start now. Let's be real we didn't expect her to be working for the Government or the post office did we?
ReplyDeleteback to the question on this post...Willow has got a lot of work to do to match the success of Bieber in the music business but I see her overall success surpassing Bieber in the long run. I say that because of the respect I have for Will and Jada. They wouldn't have it any other way. Much respect to Bieber though...looks like he's an exceptionally talented kid himself.
and oh yeah...another great headline written by LAH
ReplyDelete@StyleNinja - you're right, she was already set for life, she's just making it even sweeter for herself.
ReplyDelete@KGM - I agree. Why wait? It's not like she's going to public school and soccer games anyway that she'd miss out on. She's always traveling and on the red carpet so why delay the inevitable. I agree, Willow will have to step it up on the vocals and start playing some instruments to surpass Beiber, but she's only 9 so she definitely has the time to make it happen and definitely has the resources at her fingertips.
Thanks KGM. It took me a minute to try to come up with a clever headline. I'm glad you like it.:)
Speaking for the older generation , I have to admit I actually like the song. It’s cute, catchy, and I’m sure fun to dance to. More importantly, I think it’s great that these Smith children have parents that have figured out how to have a career and nurture their children at the same time. Too many children don’t have the opportunity to spread their wings. I agree that if this is in fact the direction Willow would like her life to go, she definitely has a lot of learning, training and hard work ahead of her. But at 9, who knows? This could easily be a passing fancy for her. I mean really, at 9 how many different answers did you have to the question “what do you want to be when you grow up?”
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree, the headlines are just getting better and better. Keep it going LAH!
