Forget the Grammys and Forget Esperanza Too

I just wanted to also mention a few highlights from the performances on the Grammys and my last post was getting too long and I know you guys have a short attention span. The Aretha Franklin tribute was enjoyable. Christina Aguilera did a great job singing “Aint No Way”. Yolanda Adams singing “Move in the Spirit” was the other highlight. Lady GaGa being born out of the egg was kind of funny. Is it me or did her song “Born This Way” sound just like Madonna’s “Express Yourself”? Come to think of it, she actually looked like Madonna with that fake blonde ponytail. Cee Lo’s outfit was pretty entertaining. The performance with the Muppets was a cute idea. Gwyneth Paltrow singing “Forget You” went over better on the Glee episode she was on, but I guess they had to give it a shot. John Mayer, Norah Jones and Keith Urban singing “Jolene” prior to presenting an award was quite enjoyable. I wish they would’ve let that go on longer. Wow, I can’t believe they got Barbara Streisand to perform. I like that song “Evergreen”, but I must say her voice isn’t what it used to be. I’ve really enjoyed everything Bruno Mars had to offer this year so I was excited to see him perform on the Grammys, but I have to admit I was kind of under whelmed. I know he was trying to be creative, but he should’ve left Grenade ‘just the way it was’. Get it? Just the way you are is his other song. Anyway, this version of Grenade that he tried didn’t work mainly because he couldn’t hit those high notes. He probably has been overworking his voice lately, but he should’ve rested it for the Grammys or drank some hot water with honey and lemon or something. Maybe if he brought it down an octave he wouldn’t have had to struggle so much to hit those notes. Janelle Monae’s dismount from the mosh pit didn’t go so well.

  1. Finally, LAH! I’ve been holding my tongue until it hurts. First, I have to say it’s always disappointing when your picks don’t win. And, I know we can’t always get our way. But, it just burns my buns when the PTB’s (powers that be) just do stupid stuff. It’s almost like they made a mistake but they don’t want to admit that someone switched the name in the envelope and the “guards” really weren’t guarding the envelopes like they are supposed to. Anyway, the point is “JUSTIN, YOU WERE ROBBED!” and everybody there including Esperanza knows it.

Jennifer Hudson looked amazing! Actually, all the ladies in the Aretha tribute looked good. I loved Melissa Etheridge’s dress. Christina’s rendition of “Ain’t No Way” was fantastic. Jennifer, you’ve got my “Respect.” And, Yolanda – Puhleeeeze! Actually, they were all good, except for one. Please tell me why the Florence person was included among these super talented ladies. Don’t get it. As for Aretha’s cameo – I can’t tell if her slimmed down body is due to her illness or a change in diet. Either way, Go Aretha, you’re on the right track.

Talk about hitting the nail on the head – GaGa is definitely gaga! The egg thing was pretty extreme although I’m sure it was entertaining for the attendees. Oh and I’m not feeling the pointy shoulders. Really weird. But, she makes no apologies because she was born that way.

Poor Usher, he looked like he was going to pass out trying to keep up with the young ‘uns. Janelle seemed a little manic. Couldn’t keep up with the microphone and then the mosh pit thing was clumsy. Diddy looked a mess. What the heck was that in his mouth?

Ah, Cee Lo is the male answer to GaGa. What a nut he is – but really enjoyable. I really like that song and I loved his outfit and over the top performance with the Muppets.

I’m not sure I really get Rihanna. I know she’s popular and I know she reportedly had a cold but….. Now the Skyler Grey person sounded pretty good. I was really looking forward to Bruno’s performance and was a little disappointed. Poor Mick Jagger – making all those babies is obviously taking its toll. Barbara is still one of the best, as far as I’m concerned. Did you see the dancer fall on Justin Bieber’s performance?

  2. I didn't watch. But your recap did the show justice. I got all I needed to know just from here. (Just took me a minute to comment) Right now, I'm LMAO @ Sharon calling Cee Lo the male answer to Lady Gaga...hilarious, but so fitting

  3. @ Sharon - Florence wasn’t that bad. The other ladies in the Aretha tribute were just really great so she pales in comparison. Florence and the Machine were really big this year, that’s why she was asked to join the crew. If you’ve been paying attention to the music industry this year (all types of music) you’d be familiar with Florence. Did Aretha slim down? Well I’ll take your word for it, but she still doesn’t wear flattering clothes for whatever size she is. It doesn’t matter if Rihanna had a cold or not. She never sounds good live. She makes a great hit song and she’s a beautiful fashionista, but the vocals are mediocre and sometimes just bad. Yes, I saw Beiber’s dancer fall. Looked like he fell on his back so I was a little concerned. I hope he’s okay.

  4. Thanks Eee Jay. It’s good to hear from you. Shame on you for not watching one of the biggest events in the music industry. Smack your hand! But I’m glad to be of service.

  5. OK, I'll admit I'm not the most knowlegeable music lover, but I'm glad to hear that I'm on point about Rihanna. I really am tired of the hype. Maybe now that Aretha has embraced a healthier lifestyle (diet and excercise) maybe she'll get a new stylist.
