Janet Jackson Is My American Idol

OMG! I still can’t get myself together. (Breathe and count to 10.) Ladies and gentleman, Christmas has come early this year! What on earth did I do to deserve this wonderful gift? I’ve been complaining about how terrible this season of idol has been and I take it all back. This is the best idol season ever. Well…it was the best Idol finale ever. I have been praying to the baby Jesus for some better days and my prayers have been answered in the form of Janet Jackson. I screamed for a full sixty seconds when she came out. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that Janet would be on this show. Here I was thinking the highlight of the show would be an inevitable “Pants on the Ground” performance. It was really good to see (and hear) Christina Aguilera, the Bee Gees, Michael MacDonald, Hall and Oates, Alanis Morrisette and Joe Cocker. I really enjoyed Carrie Underwood’s new song “Undo it”. It was good to see Bret Michaels perform, but I really think he should be home resting. It was super cool to see all the Idol winners sing together with some of the former contestants. Just when I thought the show was pretty entertaining and was probably coming close to ending, I heard the first five notes of “Again” that I would recognize anywhere. When Janet came out, I just couldn’t contain my glee. I noticed that microphone headset, which could only mean one thing. Janet’s going to dance! What more could a girl ask for? I swear, I don’t think those songs, or her dancing to them, will ever get old to me. How can you not love Janet? I can no longer get involved in conversations with people who can’t give Janet the respect she deserves for all she has done. What an amazing career. Maybe the last CD didn’t sell as many as her first few CDs, but so what. She had thirteen number one hits between Control and Rhythm Nation alone. Who can keep that up on every CD? She’s still making good music and she’s still performing at a high level at age 44. Maybe it’s not as energetic as it used to be, but good lord, who can dance, the way she was dancing for 3 hours straight at age 44? And please don’t even bring up the Super Bowl…that was so a hundred years ago. Janet is the greatest. Case closed.

  1. OK...maybe I am ready to be a Janet Jackson fan again. I am one of those who lost a little respect for her after the Super Bowl incident. But last night she looked AMAZING! What a suprise. And she even did a little live singing (I think). If I am not mistaken Ryan said Janet has 34 number records. I didn't know that. That is truly amazing.
Much respect to Janet. At this point, she can come on the stage with a walker or wheelchair with 2 breast hanging out and I won't be mad at her. 34 number one records and looking as good as she looked last night...she can do anything she wants. And she is King of Pops sister....enough said.

Love Carrie Underwoods performance and her pants too.

The rest of the show was fine. Great to see the Bee Gees, Michael MacDonald, Hall and Oates, Alanis Morrisette and Joe Cocker (but I am convinced that if Joe Cocker can make a living as a singer...so can I)

  2. LOL!! Don’t hold back LAH! Say what you really mean. Various guests notwithstanding, I had just made a mental note that it was pretty inevitable that the most boring season ever would end with the most boring finale ever. And then, OMG the former Idols appeared. And then…JANET JACKSON! OMG! Don’t get me wrong it was really good to see some of the entertainers like Christina, Michael MacDonald and Joe Cocker (bless his heart, I thought he was dead). But what a surprise. Who knew Janet was going to appear and how in the world did they manage to keep that a secret? And did she look hot or what? Love, love, love the new hair doo. I agree. I’m super happy that Brett Michaels is off the critical list, but “Dude – Get Some Rest!” The last thing you need is a medical set back. It was a production coup to have the former Idols and popular contestants line the stage and sing. Speaking of former idols, I did a quick count and noticed that one Idol was missing. Until this morning I couldn’t even remember who it was. Found out it was David Cook. I heard he was at a charity event. Seems to me the timing was a little weird since this finale has probably been in the planning stage since January. Have to say, though, he wasn’t really missed.

  3. Nobody missed David Cook. I still stand by what I said before...after Jordin Sparks, who really cares. Kelly sounded good. Reuben looked good...his weight is really coming down. Fantasia sounded good, as well as Carrie and Jordin. Taylor was funny. He made me chuckle. Come on KGM, Carrie's song and voice were great and you mention her pants. I know where you head is. Paula Abdul looked good. Cute dress and shoes...but who's idea was it to let her talk? Bad idea.
