Did my fellow Gleeks catch the latest episode with Mercedes singing Aretha Franklin’s “Ain’t No Way”? I love that show. Mercedes did a good job, so if you missed it, click here to check it out. Also on Glee that night was Gwyneth Paltrow singing “Turning Tables”, one of my favorite songs from Adele’s new CD titled 21. Gwyneth did okay, but of course Adele is way better. Click here to listen to Adele singing “Turning Tables” and tell me what you think. If you don’t have Adele’s CD you should get it. The first single off the CD was “Rolling In The Deep”. I really enjoy that song. Something about the music and the way she sings it makes me feel like its something you would have heard coming out of a church after hours in the back woods of Georgia in the 1950s.
Until next time…

I swear LAH, you are such an old soul. And I mean that lovingly. I can see a tad of a “down home” beat in “Rolling…” But, when I listen to these two songs (“Turning Tables”) and (“Rolling in the Deep”), it makes me wonder where this is coming from. Is she singing about someone close to her or her own personal experiences? I mean I could be wrong, but it seems to me that she’s singing about someone coming out of and rising up from an abusive relationship. Anyway, I do like them both.
ReplyDeleteAnd Mercedes….What a talent!!! I can only see her getting stronger as she and her voice mature.
Just viewed this episode of Glee and LAH I can't believe you didn't mention that spine tingling performance by Charice. "All By Myself" is one of my favorites and this little girl soared.
ReplyDeleteI would think she’s talking about herself because most writers write from personal experience. Which song are you talking about? They’re both about the same thing. Love gone wrong. Rolling in the Deep is about her leaving a guy and the things he did to make it not work and the shame in what could’ve been if only he’d act right and Turning Tables is about an off an on relationship that’s gone on too long and how she’s finally strong enough not to fall back into that cycle. That’s what I think at least.
ReplyDeleteI didn’t mention Charice because I think subconsciously I just couldn’t deal with her visual performance. I do think she sounds great and I love that song, but she’s a bit over the top with some of her motions. She mimics Celine Dion’s crazy air punches and she’s freakishly short which kind of unnerves me.
