Let It Be

Yippee!! I was all excited because it’s Beatles night on American Idol. I was thinking it should be really good, because they’ve got a lot of great hits, but I should’ve known these kids would ruin it for me. Chicken Little sang “Long and Winding Road” and it was a long and painful road for me. At first I thought Chicken Little was gay and he just didn’t know it yet, but tonight it seemed he was beginning to embrace his orientation. Man oh man, “Let It Be” is one of my favorite songs and the young girl did not do it justice. I’m starting to think there’s something going on with this girl’s voice, because she sounds very nasal or flat…just kind of off. Wouldn’t you know, the judges said that was her best performance? Maybe things sound different in the theatre than they do on TV. “Can’t Buy Me Love” is another favorite of mine, but the performance by Garcia was lackluster. Ok, they are clearly hearing something different in the studio than we’re hearing on TV. Big Mike was not good. He continues to try to sing in his falsetto voice and he can never hit those notes. The rest of the song was just shy of okay. “Come Together” is such a funky song. I love the Michael Jackson version. Crystal did a good job with it; though she didn’t quite hit some of the power notes, but let’s face it….she doesn’t have much competition. When the said the guy with nine lives was going to sing “All My Love” I thought that was the perfect song for him to continue with the corny performances he usually gives with bad vocals. But you know what? He actually did better than usual…but still who cares. I’m not even sure what song Goldilocks sang, but I liked it! He sounded great. There was a very nice feel to the song. Siobhan is putting me to sleep. I like her boots though. Wow. Ask for a bag piper and ye shall receive. I like “Hey Jude” as well and I really like the paint salesman, but this wasn’t my favorite performance of his.

Okay, let’s see if my psychic powers are still working this week. I’m thinking either the girl that sang Let It Be or Garcia is going home.

  1. Look LAH, you need to stop getting pumped in anticipation of an exciting night on AI. It’s just not going to happen. Sadly, this year is their most lackluster. As a matter of fact, it would probably be best if we just prepared ourselves for the worse and maybe we wouldn’t be so disappointed.

The problem with Kate (the young 17 year old) is she’s way to young and inexperienced for her “big/older” voice type. It’s probably going to be years before she grows into it. Her “Let It Be” rendition was pure torture. I agree though, there has got to be a difference between studio sound and television sound because the judges and I are definitely on different plains. Big Mike is still OK with me. Although Simon wasn’t impressed with his performance. Listen, maybe he wouldn’t be one of my favs if the field of competition was better. But for me with this group, he is one of the standouts. Chicken Little is just plain pathetic. I don’t know what he was trying to do but singing such a cumbersome ballad was definitely the wrong way to go. Sadly, the only reason he’s on the show is probably because of his back-story. And AI needs to stop doing that unless the person with a good back-story also has a good voice like the Girl with the challenged daughter and bad driving record who clearly should have been on this season and probably would have won or at least been in the Too 2. OK, I digressed. Sorry. Smiley-faced boy (Tim) is still B – O – R – I – N – G and I wish him gone sooner than later. Who cares what Curly haired boy (Casey) sang? Definitely never heard the song before but he did a more than adequate job singing it and it was one of the few enjoyable performances of the night. Poor quirky Siobhan is all over the place. Her voice is not bad if she would sing the right songs. Unfortunately, she keeps trying to tackle songs for the “wow” factor and she ends up screaming the high notes or making the song sound like a toneless funeral dirge. Crystal still remains to be the best singer in my opinion. And sadly, for the AI producers, she’s also the least unpredictable and exciting singer. But I enjoy her and think she should win the whole kit and caboodle.

So, LAH, my picks to leave are Aaron or Tim (who are boring me to death) or Kate with the voice beyond her years who has already been in the bottom 3 for at least the last 3 shows. Garcia deserves another chance.

BTW, what’s up with the weird instruments – A Diggory Doo and Bag Pipes??? Come on.

  2. Funeral dirge? Funny. See, you just told me who you think should go home based on who you liked the least or who didn't do good last night, but I'm basing it off of who do I think the silly voters are gonna root for. You know they love Tim because has the swoopy hair thin going on. It's working for Justin Beiber. If Chicken Little's name is Aaron then he's also young enough to be saved by the young girls who, let's face it, are really the only people that take the time to vote. Once they realize he's playing for the other team, they'll stop calling in for him. I, who have proven to be psychic, got it right by choosing Garcia/Glasses, who was in the bottom...though no one went home....so my psychic status is in tact.
