Let’s quickly recap tonight’s American Idol elimination episode. Just because you put on an MJ jacket and a Billie Jean hat doesn’t mean we should scream for you, yet this misguided audience did. Give me a break Jason. Come on Kara! What song did the dude write that was so great? Not the song he was singing. When is somebody new going to come out that I can get excited about? Aw, little David Archuleta is back singing the song he sang on his season of idol that made me sit up and pay attention to him. I was wondering why no one sang my other favorite Beatles song “Imagine” ….and know I know why. Why didn’t Ri-Ri sing “Rude Boy”? That’s what I wanted to hear. I give her props for the hair and the cat suit…but not for the guitar. Who does she think she’s fooling? She can’t play the guitar. I could strum those two chords she used and I only took lessons for two weeks back in 1989. Oh well, looks like I’m not psychic after all, but I did get an early Christmas present. I’m not going to have to watch Big Mike stuff himself into tiny clothes anymore. Oh no, they’re letting him sing for his life. Did you hear the falsetto in the beginning of the song? He didn’t hit it. Nor was the rest of the song that impressive. I’m convinced these people have never heard Maxwell sing “This Woman’s Work” because they seem so impressed with Big Mike’s version. Ok, just kidding. Looks like there’s coal in my stocking. They decided to save him just as I realized who he reminds me of. Wait for it…

Replace the banana with a microphone and you know that looks exactly like him with the tiny hat and the bow tie.
BTW - I had a lively debate about music with my in-laws recently and we ended up on the topic of tone. There are a lot of great singers out there that can hit all the right notes, but there is something about the natural tone of the voice that can’t be taught or rehearsed that can set you apart from the rest. Here are two examples of great tone for you to enjoy.

LET IT GO LAH! We’ll never agree on Big Mike who I find rather likable. I’m not saying he’s going to win and I’ll admit that his voice is not really spectacular but he has competently handled most of his songs and you can’t say that for several of the other contestants. The judges were right to save him. You must admit, really, that there are definitely others who should go first. The “Teeny Boppers” need to be put on restriction so they will stop texting and calling in votes for Aaron and Tim. The FOX analyst down here is furious that Tim hasn’t gone long before this. And yes, listening to Maxwell’s version, there’s no doubt he excels at his rendition. I just don’t think it’s fair to compare them. And when you don’t, you realize Mike did a good job with his effort.
ReplyDeleteAh, little David is working on a second album. Who cares? Did you notice that he and Kate have a similar tone to their voice?
When Ryan announced how many people would be on the show, I thought good. The producers are going to continue to spare us a pathetic group number. But I spoke too soon. What the heck was that? Was it pre-recorded? Where they lip synching? How BORING and a complete waste of time.
Jason Durillo. OK, here’s a positive – here’s a young male performer who’s pants weren’t on the ground. Maybe Kara is trying to help fill the temporary Chris Brown void. Didn’t work.
Ditto on the tone. I believe almost anyone can be taught to sing, but a unique natural tone is a gift from God.
BTW, I failed to mention that because of the "save", 2 people will be eliminated next week. So there's still hope that we can say Adios to Smiley-faced boy (Tim) and Chicken Little (Aaron).
ReplyDeleteYes, two people will be sent home next week..and one of them is going to be Big Mike. Unless the teenie bopper have a change of heart, he's still in jeopardy. And you can't complain about it if you haven't exercised your right to vote. Ok...if I don't compare Mike's version to Maxwell's let me think about it again. Nope, still don't like it. Maybe if he hadn't attempted the falsetto in the beginnig it would've been ok, but that's how he started the song, and I never quite recovered from that traumatizing experience.
